Stump Grinding Vs. Stump Removal – What Are the Differences?
The elimination of the stumps or stump grinding in your yard should be done carefully and this is one of the most important aspects of tree maintenance. If you think twice about eliminating stumps, you have some advantages in performing it.
Tree Growth
If the stump is left unattended, other smaller trees around it will grow. These trees are then expensive to remove if they remain for too long. In addition, the trees suck their nutrients from other surrounding plants and cause the plants to wither or die.
Safety
It must be noted that these stumps are dangerous and can occur if children or others stumble. Certain devices, such as the mower, may also be damaged by stumps.
Pests and Other Diseases
The tree stumps are attracted to insects like carpenter ants, beetles and termites and they can be environmentally-related for other trees and your home. Furthermore, untreated stump can contain diseases or fungi, which jeopardize other plants.
Stump Removal
It's a bit exhaustive and comprehensive to completely remove a stump. It can be done either by using 'stump killer' chemicals or by digging a large hole and taking all traces of the residual stump out. In fact, that sounds like the way forward, right? After all, the problem is fully addressed. Some problems have to be taken into account, however. The cost is one of them. Full mining is expensive, averaging from $400 to $700. When it's finished, it's time and money for you to get a hollow hole on your property. In fact, you can replant the tree in the same location because there are no roots after removal.
Stump Grinding
Stump grinding is a much quicker and affordable option. This option costs between $100 and $400 and is expected to take less than an hour.
The stump is tossed down with a grinding machine. This option will be entirely appropriate for most people.
There are some downsides, however. One is that the process of melting contaminates the air temporarily. You cannot breathe safely with sawdust in air, and stump mowing does a great deal. The grinder also leaves behind the roots, making it somewhat more difficult to replant.
For most people, these things aren't a lot. However, if your household has air pollutant susceptibility or if you plan to replant, this is perhaps not your approach.
Stump Removal or Grinding
Stump grinding and stump removal come with their advantages and disadvantages. The choice between which route is best for you depends mostly on your future plans for your countryside.
The more intrusive of the two is the stump removal process. The bulky stump of the tree is raised, and then the widespread roots of the trees are dug. It takes a lot of time, and powerful tools to complete the job. After you remove a stump, your landscape is clean and open to new ideas. What is not so good is the stump removal leaves an eyesore behind a large hole until it is filled in.
Much less intensive is stump grinding. In this instance, arborists use a machine, to cut the stump into tiny woodchips completely. Grinding, however, leaves behind the roots of the trees, is much more efficient than stump removal. If the stump is large, the produced chip battery may also be quite large, but chips for other plants in your countryside can be used as a match.
